When it’s not stormy (and I’m in Los Angeles, so that’s most of the time), I really look forward to my nightly dog walk. It’s part of the fabric of my day. I view my time on social media the same way, and I have to say that’s really helped me approach it in the right mindset. Blogging and tweeting aren’t things that happen automatically for me. Just like walking the dog, I simply know that they’re part of my day.
There is one key difference between the dog walk and my social media activity: I don’t actually HAVE to blog or tweet every day whereas the dog, uh, well… look, the dog’s gotta go! And that’s important to my mindset, too – for me, at least, social media isn’t a responsibility. Still, I make it part of the fabric of my day and, since I enjoy it and always find something to do there, I find myself much more productive than not.
What about you? Do you have an approach that helps you out? I’d love to hear it….

The dog walk works for me too – but in the summer, it’s a run. The dog and the run help me clear my head and ready myself for the blogging/tweeting/phone calls/writing of the day. Man’s best friend as they say…
