It’s a new year, and I think that’s a good excuse to check in on your social media habits. Well, at least I know I have some habits, as opposed to good ways of using the tools.
For example, I have a bad habit of only thinking of Google+ when I’ve got one of my own links to share. That’s a bad strategy for creating interaction, so I fight the urge. Instead, I’m noting the habit and resolving to change: either use the network more or fuhgettaboutit.
In looking at my social media use, I also realized that I’d gotten lazy with images and have totally underutilized video. Good news! There are ways to change this, and it’s in my power.
I also resolved to explore new tools and sites this year, as I have in years past. First up for me: Pinterest.
For me, a lot of my resolutions in social media are about efficiency and time spent. No one can do it all, but even if I’m doing a limited number of things, I want to do them in a way that makes sense.
I know a lot of people who simply said “I will stop sharing as much of my life publicly this year” and others who said “I will share more” so I figure we can all find something to resolve to deal with in 2012.
What about you? Have you looked over the way you use these wonderful tools and come up with any resolutions of your own? Feel free to share in the comments… and I look forward to seeing how we all do on our goals in 2012 and beyond.

I love exploring new sites and tools! Disciplining myself not to explore is so much harder. Pinterest is one I resisted because I feared I’d be seduced by it – and I am. It’s great for a visual person like me to skim images, pausing to linger over some, bookmarking others in an attempt to curate what I think will be useful. In fact, I love Pinterest and will be interested in your take on it Greg.

Happy New Year Greg! I’ve moved over to the new timeline on facebook. I find the idea intriguing, although the program is still quite buggy. So, I’ll probably share more rather than less. Will check out Pinterest, although I keep hearing of people losing hours to it…

You know, Susan and Elizabeth, the “time loss” issue is what has kept me from Pinterest, too. However, time lost is just a choice, and I don’t have to make it. And if I make the choice to lose time, I’m figuring there’s a reason beyond just eye-candy. Right? RIGHT? Well, here’s hoping anyway
I’ll report back and save y’all the time in the end. Yes. That’s why I’m gonna do it. For you!

I’m going to try and blog blast at least every day on my lunch hour. Sandwich and then hit as many blogs as possible so when I get home it’s all about writing ’til I drop.
