Twitter has added new features recently that give you some helpful information when you’re deciding whether to follow someone new and also help make finding likely people to follow much easier.
The screen capture you see above was taken when I went to a new-to-me Twitter user’s page today: I saw three names of people who I follow who already do follow this new person, plus, I learned that more than 10 other friends of mine do, too. I can click on that 10+ and see the whole list of friends who already follow, if I want.
This information gives me a fast snapshot of whether I might want to follow this person, too: in effect, my friends are “vouching” for them. If I trust my friends, it follows I would probably like this person, too.
After you follow someone new, Twitter now suggests other people you might want to follow:
Hover your mouse over those suggestions, and you get information about each of those Twitter users. So far, I’m finding that more often than not I do want to follow the suggestions.
These changes are only available when you follow someone on their Twitter.com page (as opposed to when you follow someone via a client like TweetDeck). I find these changes helpful… and hope you all find some wonderful new tweeps to follow!
