I didn’t put up a links post this weekend, but I did want to pass along Danny Brown’s post 52 Cool Facts About Social Media. A sample:
37. You would need to live for around 1,000 years to watch all the videos currently on YouTube.
Not what I’d use my time for, but it’s a great bit of perspective. This social stuff is big and likely to get bigger, and I hope you’ll stay connected and keep on playing in traffic with me….

Hey there Greg,
Thanks for sharing my post with your readers, really appreciate it.
You’re right – there are far better ways to spend a single lifetime, never mind 10-12 of them (and my math is probably a way off!). Especially with some of the crud that’s on YouTube…
But it sure does a great job of showing just how vast the amount of information we now have at our fingertips is.
And it’s only going to get bigger…
Cheers!

Perspective like that is invaluable, I think. I was reading Clay Shirky’s Cognitive Surplus, in which he notes that the amount of time spent collectively on creating wikipedia seems like a lot… until you compare it to the amount of time spent by people collectively watching commercials over one weekend.
It will get bigger – we’re largely still in the infancy – and then it’ll change. How? Dunno! But I look forward to it….
