It used to be that to get your visitor stats on a Blogger (or blogspot.com, if you prefer) blog, you needed to sign up for and install an outside “service” like Google Analytics or SiteMeter. That looks to change soon, however… and you can play with the new Stats service already.
If you have a blogger blog, you can currently see the stat functionality by logging into what Google calls “Blogger in draft” – basically, pre-release software. In fact, if you’re logged in to your blogger account already, you can type in or click on http://draft.blogger.com/home right now.
When you do, you’ll see a new version of the dashboard. It won’t look much different, but after your blog name you will see…
If you click on that last option, Stats, you’ll get another screen full o’ options:
You can also see a list of most visited posts and a list of Traffic Sources – to me, two of the most important reasons to have stats at all.
The stats even update in close to real-time, if you have a need to check – something Google Analytics doesn’t do. And… there’s no code to install. The stats simply are there when you check.
I haven’t spent much time tracking these stats against other ones, as the different counters often come up with different numbers, but for me, the raw numbers aren’t as important as the where’s and what’s anyway.
A nice change from Blogger, particularly for a stat-lover like me.

Very cool! Of course the “all-time” numbers are a bit off considering the service has only been available for one month!

Thanks for the heads up Greg!

Yes, it’s true that the “all time” numbers are off. By a lot for anyone who’s been around awhile! Still, for ease of use, these seem to be pretty high on the scale. I wonder if they’ll add a field where you can say “xxxxx visitors from before Start Date”?

Greg, do you know if the page hits are unique hits? I’ve been trying to find an info page about these stats, but haven’t so far.
Hi Greg!
Thanks for the great information! I’m new to blogging and now I’m wondering how to check stats on my wordpress blog.
