Tonight marked the 52nd #kidlitchat (a fact first noted by the fab Bonnie Adamson). That’s a full year of chatting on Twitter. And quite a year it’s been!
In general, I’m a big fan of online chats, and I think #kidlitchat is a great example of how they can work.
Over the last year, the chat has helped build community, created connections, been a great source of ideas, helped knowledge spread, and spawned many other chats that do the same thing.
Sure, Twitter has failed us a few times, and the 140 character limit and the speed with which the chat moves at times (100+ people who can all talk at once!) have caused some challenges, but the chance to have a worldwide gathering of the like-minded makes it all worthwhile.
You can see all the #kidlitchat transcripts here. And if you’re interested… come join us next week, July 13th at 9 PM Eastern/6 Pacific and help us celebrate a year gone by!

Hi Greg,
I love #kidlitchat. I think of it as a weekly open conference. Hooray for Year One, and many more to follow!

Hey Greg,
Thank you for #kidlitchat. I try to stop by most weeks and I am always happy when I do. Since YA gets so much attention, it’s fun to have a place to talk about middle grade books. Everyone is always so nice too. See you on twitter.
